(Tory) in January 1677.3 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1678 in the Norfolk Militia Regiment of Horse.3 He held the office of Recorder between 1683 and 1688.3 He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount Yarmouth, of Norfolk [E., 1673] on 8 March 1682/83.3 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Paston, of Norfolk [E., 1673] on 8 March 1682/83.3 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Yarmouth [E., 1679] on 8 March 1682/83.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Paston, of Oxnead, Norfolk [E., 1641] on 8 March 1682/83.4 He held the office of High Steward of Great Yarmouth in 1684.3 He held the office of Joint Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire between March 1688 and December 1688.3 He held the office of Treasurer of the Household from March 1687/88 to December 1688, and stayed loyal to King James II, whom with three other peers he urged to return to London after James had fled to the Channel port of Sheerness preparatory to leaving England.3 Between July 1690 and August 1690 he was imprisoned in the Tower of London for high treason (i.e., Jacobite sympathies.)3 In July 1692 he was again imprisoned in the Tower of London.3 He held the office of Vice-Admiral of Norfolk between January 1719 and April 1719.3 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1722.3 On his death, his titles expired and his estates were sold to meet his huge debts, including the mansion of Oxnead.3
