Francis Leslie Pym, Baron Pym1 

Francis Leslie Pym, Baron Pym was born on 13 February 1922.1 He was the son of Leslie Ruthven Pym and Iris Rosalind Orde.1 He married Valerie Fortune Daglish, daughter of Francis John Heaton Daglish and Constance Euphemia Forrester Ainslie, in 1949.1 He died on 7 March 2008 at age 86.3
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Lancers.1 He was educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1945.1 In 1959 he unsuccessfully stood for the seat of Rhondda West.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Cambridgeshire between 1961 and 1983.1 He held the office of Assistant Government Whip of the House of Commons between 1962 and 1964.1 He held the office of Opposition Whip between 1964 and 1967.1 He held the office of Opposition Deputy Chief Whip between 1967 and 1970.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1970.1 He held the office of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, H.M. Treasury between 1970 and 1973.1 He held the office of Chief Government Whip of the House of Commons between 1970 and 1973.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Cambridgeshire in 1973.1 He held the office of Secretary of State for Northern Ireland between 1973 and 1974.1 He held the office of Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster in 1981.1 He held the office of Paymaster-General in 1981.1 He held the office of Leader of the House of Commons in 1981.1 He held the office of Foreign Secretary between 1982 and 1983.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Cambridgeshire South-East between 1983 and 1987.1 He wrote the book The Politics of Consent, published 1984.1 He sold the family estate of Hazells Hall, Sandy, Bedfordshire.1 He was created Baron Pym, of Sandy in the County of Bedfordshire [U.K. Life Peer] on 9 October 1987.4 He was a director of Christie Brockbank Shipton Ltd in 1994.1 He wrote the book Sentimental Journey, published 1998.1 He lived in 2003 at Everton Park, Sandy, Bedfordshire, EnglandG.1

Valerie Fortune Daglish1 

Valerie Fortune Daglish was the daughter of Francis John Heaton Daglish and Constance Euphemia Forrester Ainslie.1,3 She married Francis Leslie Pym, Baron Pym, son of Leslie Ruthven Pym and Iris Rosalind Orde, in 1949.1 She died on 2 March 2017.4
From 1949, her married name became Pym.1 After her marriage, Valerie Fortune Daglish was styled as Baroness Pym in 1987.
