     He held the office of Clerk of the Privy Council between 1649 and 1668.2

     Sir John Menzies of that Ilk, 4th Bt. was the son of James Menzies and Janet Stevenson.1 He married Lady Charlotte Murray, daughter of John Murray, 4th Duke of Atholl and Hon. Jane Cathcart, on 4 March 1797.2,1 He died on 26 March 1800, without issue.1
     He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Menzies [N.S., 1665] on 4 September 1768.2
