Sir Theophilus John Metcalfe, 5th Bt. was born on 28 November 1828.2 He was the son of Sir Thomas Theophilus Metcalfe, 4th Bt. and Félicité Anne Browne.3 He married, firstly, Charlotte Low, daughter of General Sir John Low and Augusta Ludlow Shakespear, on 14 October 1851.2 He married, secondly, Katharine Dempster-Metcalfe, daughter of James Whitshed Hawkins-Dempster and Charlotte Dempster, on 26 August 1876.1 He died on 8 November 1883 at age 54.1
He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Metcalfe, of Chilton, co. Berks [U.K., 1802] on 3 November 1853.1 He was with the Bengal Civil Service.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)2
