He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1889 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1891 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for South East Surrey between 1892 and 1906.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the 4th Battalion, The Queen’s Royal Regiment.5 He was Colonel of the Surrey Volunteer Regiment.5 He was Lieutenant-Colonel and Honorary Colonel of the Surrey Yeomanry between 1901 and 1912.5 He held the office of Custos Rotulorum of Surrey between 1905 and 1939. He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey between 1905 and 1939.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Ashcombe, of Dorking, Surrey and of Bodiam Castle, Sussex [U.K., 1892] on 26 February 1917.4 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)5 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)5
