John Swinton

     John Swinton, Lord Swinton is the son of John Swinton, 26th of that Ilk and Mary Semple.3 He married Margaret Mitchelson, daughter of John Mitchelson, in 1758.3 He died on 5 January 1799.3
     He held the office of Lord of Session in 1782.3 He was styled as Lord Swinton [Scottish Law Lord] in 1782.3

     Proprietor of Le Courier de l’Europe.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.1

     Samuel Swinton was born on 2 August 1773.1 He was baptised on 13 July 1773 at St. Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London, England.1 He was the son of Captain Samuel Swinton and Félicité Jeanne le Fébre.2 He married Isabella Routledge, daughter of Robert Routledge, on 19 March 1800.1 He died in 1839.1
     He was in the Honourable East India Company Service.2 He lived at Swinton, Berwickshire, Scotland.2 He purchased the estate of Swinton in 1829.1
