Hudson Gurney was born on 19 January 1775 at Norwich, Norfolk, England.2 He was the son of Richard Gurney and Agatha Barclay.2 He married Margaret Barclay, daughter of Robert Barclay of Urie and Sarah Anne Allardice, in 1809.1 He died on 9 November 1864 at age 89.1
He wrote the book English History and Chronology in Rhyme.2 He wrote the book Cupid and Psyche, published 1799.2 He wrote the book Heads of Ancient History, published 1814.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newtown, Isle of Wight between 1816 and 1832.2 He was appointed Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.) in 1818.2 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1818.2 He held the office of High Sheriff of Norfolk in 1835.2
