General James O’Hara was born circa 1752 at County Mayo, Ireland.2 He was the son of Major John O’Hara.2 He married Mary Carson in 1783 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.2 He died on 21 December 1819 at Water Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.2
He was educated at College of Saint-Sulpice, Paris, France.2 He emigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., arriving on 1772.2 He fought in the American War of Independence.2 He was Quartermaster-General of the U.S. Army between 1792 and 1796.2 He held the office of Chief Burgess of Pittsburgh in 1803.2
