     Eliza Coats was born on 17 November 1854.¹ She was the daughter of Sir Peter Coats and Gloranna McKenzie.² She married James Louis Alexander Hope, son of Hon. James Hope-Wallace and Lady Mary Frances Nugent, on 24 April 1884.¹ She died on 7 May 1906 at age 51.²
     Her married name became Hope.

     Sir Peter Coats was born on 18 July 1808.¹ He was the son of James Coats and Catherine Mitchell.² He married Gloranna McKenzie, daughter of Daniel McKenzie, on 5 November 1832.¹ He died on 9 March 1890 at age 81.¹
     He was educated at Paisley Grammar School, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland^G.¹ He was educated at University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland^G.¹ He was co-founder of J. & P. Coats.¹ He was appointed Knight in 1869.¹ He was Commissioner of Supply for Ayrshire.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society of Edinburgh (F.R.S.E.)¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Renfrewshire.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)¹ He lived at Auchendrane, Ayrshire, Scotland^G.¹ He lived at Campagne du Sachel, Mustapha Superieur, Algeria^G.¹

     Peter Oliver Louis Hope was born on 19 March 1885.¹ He was the son of James Louis Alexander Hope and Eliza Coats.¹ He died on 12 July 1885.¹

     Laurence Nugent Hope was born on 14 October 1890.¹ He was the son of James Louis Alexander Hope and Eliza Coats.¹ He married, firstly, Hilda Mary Hunter, daughter of Michael Joseph Hunter, on 23 September 1919.¹ He married, secondly, Constance Elizabeth Shell, daughter of E. A. Shell, in February 1941.¹ He died on 24 September 1973 at age 82.¹
     He was educated at Clifton College, Clifton, Bristol, England^G.¹ He graduated from Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G, in 1912 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ He fought in the First World War.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in the Welsh Guards.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal North Devon Yeomanry (TA.)¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) in 1920.¹ He held the office of High Sheriff of Herefordshire in 1923.¹ He fought in the Second World War.¹ He gained the rank of Staff Officer in the Middle East.¹ He lived at Whitney Court, Herefordshire, England^G. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) in 1953.¹

     Hilda Mary Hunter was the daughter of Michael Joseph Hunter.¹ She married Laurence Nugent Hope, son of James Louis Alexander Hope and Eliza Coats, on 23 September 1919.¹ She died on 21 March 1938 at Hereford Hospital, Hereford, Herefordshire, England^G, after a fall from her horse.^2,1
     Her married name became Hope.

     Michael Joseph Hunter held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)¹ He lived at Stoke Hall, Derbyshire, England^G.¹

     John Nugent Hope was born on 7 October 1924.¹ He is the son of Laurence Nugent Hope and Hilda Mary Hunter.¹ He married, firstly, Polly Stockwell, daughter of General Sir Hugh Charles Stockwell, on 15 August 1953.¹ He married, secondly, Penelope Berengaria Walker Durrell, daughter of Lawrence George Durrell and Nancy Isobel Myers, on 22 July 1986.¹

     Polly Stockwell is the daughter of General Sir Hugh Charles Stockwell.¹ She married John Nugent Hope, son of Laurence Nugent Hope and Hilda Mary Hunter, on 15 August 1953.¹
     Her married name became Hope.

     General Sir Hugh Charles Stockwell was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)¹ He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)¹ He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.)¹

     Augustine Jason Nugent Hope was born on 11 July 1961.¹ He is the son of John Nugent Hope and Polly Stockwell.¹ He married Maureen Patricia Hymers, daughter of Douglas Hymers, in 1991.¹
