     Major Archibald James Coats was born on 2 August 1916.² He was the son of Ernest Symington Coats and Nora Pountney.³ He married, firstly, Virginia Ferrante di Ruffano.² He married, secondly, Prudence Elizabeth Strettell, daughter of Colonel Eric Francis Dashwood Strettell, on 18 April 1952 at St. Columba’s Church, Pont Street, London, England.¹ He died on 21 August 1989 at age 73.⁴
     He gained the rank of Major in the Scots Guards.¹
