     Captain Henry Byng was born on 11 September 1811 at Nova Scotia, Canada.2,3 He was the son of Vice-Admiral Hon. Henry Dilkes Byng and Maria Jane Clerke.4 He married, firstly, Mary Anne Webb, daughter of William Webb, on 10 June 1839 at St. George Hanover Square, London, England.2,3 He married, secondly, Mary Gubbins, daughter of Lt.-Col. Richard Gubbins and Sarah Shard, on 9 June 1857.2 He died on 2 June 1881 at age 69.2
     He had two other sons (died young.)2 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)
