     He fought in the Battle of Worcester in 1651.1

     Roderick ‘Dhu’ Macneil, 18th of Barra is the son of Gilleonan Macneil, 17th of Barra and Catherine Macdonald.2 He married Isabella MacLeod, daughter of Sir Norman MacLeod, 1st of Berneray and Katherine Macdonald.1
     He was a devoted Catholic, last of the tumultuous old chiefs.1 On 10 August 1688 he received a Crown charter of all the lands of Barra ‘in free barony’ in 1689 and Jacobite in 1715.1
