     He was Colonel of the 25th Regiment.¹

     George Macdonnell, 6th of Leek was born on 12 August 1780 at St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada.¹ He was the son of General John Æneas Macdonnell, 5th of Leek and Helen Leslie of Fetternear.² He married Hon. Mary Laura Charlotte Arundell, daughter of James Everard Arundell, 9th Baron of Arundell of Wardour and Hon. Mary Christina Arundell, on 18 April 1820.¹ He died on 16 May 1870 at age 89.¹
     He was commissioned in 1796, in the service of the Lord Darlington’s Regiment.¹ In 1812 he raised Glengarry Light Infantry Regiment to repulse the American invasion of Canada.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 79th Highlanders.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1817.¹

     Sarah Ann (?) was born in 1842 at Kirton, Lincolnshire, England.¹ She married William Dennis.¹ She died in 1943.¹
     Her married name became Dennis.¹

     Maj.-Gen. John Ignatius Macdonnell is the son of George Macdonnell, 6th of Leek and Hon. Mary Laura Charlotte Arundell.²
