Lt.-Col. Duncan Macpherson of Cluny Macpherson, 13th Chief1 
He fought in the American War of Independence, with the 71st Fraser Highlanders.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 3rd Scots Fusiliers Guards.1 He recovered his ancestral lands, largely at the intercession and through the generosity of his kinsman James Macpherson of Belleville, to whom they had been offered by the Government.1 He was known as ‘Duncan of the Kiln’ from the corn kiln on his father’s estates in which he was born after Cluny Castle had been destroyed by the Duke of Cumberland.1
