     Sir Rainald Gilfrid Lewthwaite, 4th Bt. was born on 21 July 1913.¹ He was the son of Sir William Lewthwaite, 2nd Bt. and Beryl Mary Stopford Hickman.² He married Margaret Elizabeth Edmonds, daughter of Harry Edmonds, on 3 January 1936.¹ He died on 15 April 2003 at age 89.¹
     He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England.¹ He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1934 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1943.¹ He gained the rank of Brigadier in the Scots Guards.¹ He fought in the Second World War, he was mentioned in despatches twice and was wounded.¹ He gained the rank of commander in 1945 in the 1st Battalion, Scots Guards.¹ He was awarded the Croix de Guerre with palm.¹ He was Joint Services Mission to Washington in 1950.¹ He was Acting Secretary (Mil) Cabinet Office between 1953 and 1965.¹ He was with SHAPE Paris between 1955 and 1958.¹ He was GSO(1) of the DCIGS Co-Ord War Office in 1958.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in 1960 in the NATO HQ Paris.¹ He was Defence and Military Attaché Paris between 1964 and 1968.¹ He was Director of Protocol Hong Kong between 1969 and 1976.¹ He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1974.¹ He was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) in 1975.¹ He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Lewthwaite, of Broadgate, Parish of Thwaites, co. Cumberland [U.K., 1927] on 25 December 1993.¹

     Margaret Elizabeth Edmonds was the daughter of Harry Edmonds.² She married Sir Rainald Gilfrid Lewthwaite, 4th Bt., son of Sir William Lewthwaite, 2nd Bt. and Beryl Mary Stopford Hickman, on 3 January 1936.¹ She died in 1990.¹
     From 3 January 1936, her married name became Lewthwaite. She was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1941.¹
