Richard Edgcumbe, 1st Baron Edgcumbe of Mount-Edgcumbe was baptised on 23 April 1680.2 He was the son of Sir Richard Edgcumbe and Lady Anne Montagu.3 He married Matilda Furnese, daughter of Sir Henry Furnese, 1st Bt., on 12 March 1715.2 He died in 1758.1
He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Cornwall in 1701.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for St. Germains from 1701 to 1702.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Cornwall in 1702.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Plympton between 1702 and 1734.2 He held the office of a Lord of Treasury from 1716 to 1717.2 He held the office of a Lord of Treasury between 1720 and 1724.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland] in 1727.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Lostwithiel between 1734 and 1741.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Plympton from 1741 to 1742.2 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Cornwall between 1742 and 1758.2 He was created 1st Baron Edgcumbe of Mount-Edgcumbe [Great Britain] on 20 April 1742.2 He held the office of Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster between 1743 and 1758.2 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1755.2
