Brig.-Gen. Hon. John Vaughan Campbell, V.C.1 
He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1900.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was Brigade Commander and Brigadier-General of the Coldstream Guards between 1916 and 1923.1 He was awarded the Victoria Cross (V.C.) on 26 October 1916, for his actions on 15 September 1916. “During an attack at Ginchy, Somme, the first two waves of his battalion had been decimated by machine-gun and rifle fire so he took personal command of the third line, rallied his men and lead them against machine guns, capturing them and killing the gun teams. Later in the day he led the survivors of the battalion through a heavy barrage. His gallantry and initiative turned the fortunes of the day and enabled tactically vital objective is to be taken.”1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1918.1 He was awarded the Croix de Guerre with Palm and Star.1 He was awarded the Chevalier, Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur.1 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King George V between 1919 and 1933.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Coldstream Guards.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Brigadier-General in 1933.1
