     Michael William Gladwyn Garthwaite was born on 21 July 1937.¹ He is the son of Sir William Garthwaite, 1st Bt. and Gladys Hardy.²
     He was educated in 1955 at Aiglon College, Chesières-Villars, Switzerland.³ He was educated at Trinity College School, Port Hope, Ontario, Canada^G.¹

     Charles Hewitt Smith was born on 5 February 1773 at Chichester, Sussex, England^G.¹ He was the son of Reverend Charles Smith and Kitty Bull.¹ He married Mary Peckham, daughter of John Peckham and Elizabeth Drinkwater, on 5 June 1800 at Chichester, Sussex, England^G.¹ He died on 28 March 1835 at age 62 at Aldingbourne, Sussex, England^G.¹
     He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G.¹

     Mary Peckham was born on 23 November 1778 at Aldingbourne, Sussex, England^G.¹ She was the daughter of John Peckham and Elizabeth Drinkwater.¹ She married Charles Hewitt Smith, son of Reverend Charles Smith and Kitty Bull, on 5 June 1800 at Chichester, Sussex, England^G.¹ She died circa May 1824 at Aldingbourne, Sussex, England^G.¹ She was buried on 3 May 1824 at Aldingbourne, Sussex, England^G.¹
     From 5 June 1800, her married name became Smith.¹

     Sir William Mark Charles Garthwaite, 3rd Bt. was born on 4 November 1946.¹ He was the son of Sir William Francis Cuthbert Garthwaite, 2nd Bt. and Patricia Beatrice Eden Neate.² He married Victoria Lisette Tuzo, daughter of Sir General Harry Tuzo, in 1979.¹ He died on 23 March 2024 at age 77.³
     Sir William Mark Charles Garthwaite, 3rd Bt. usually went by his middle name of Mark.¹ He was educated at Gordonstoun School, Elgin, Morayshire, Scotland^G.¹ He graduated from University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.^G, with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)¹ He was with Seascope Insurance Services (Marine Insurance Brokers) between 1970 and 1987.¹ He was with Brandram and Garthwaite Ltd between 1987 and 1988.² He was director of Regis Low Ltd, Lloyd’s Brokers in 1988.¹ He was director of Steel Burrill Jones Ltd between 1992 and 1997.² He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Garthwaite, of Durham [U.K., 1919] on 15 December 1993.¹ He was a director of Willis Ltd in 1997.¹ He lived in 2003 at 3 Hazlewell Road, London, England^G.¹

     Sir Philip d‘Ambrumenil was born on 28 December 1886 at Hampstead, London, England.² He was the son of Benerice Henry d‘Ambrumenil and Isabella Thompson.² He married Gertrude Merriel Bailey on 30 November 1921 at The Parish Church, St. James, Westminster, London, England.³ He died on 19 September 1974 at age 87 at Westminster, London, England.²
     He lived at St. James’s Court, Buckingham Gate, London, England^G.¹ He was chairman of Lloyd’s.³

     Patricia Merriel d‘Ambrumenil was born circa 1924.² She was the daughter of Sir Philip d‘Ambrumenil and Gertrude Merriel Bailey.^3,2 She married Sir William Francis Cuthbert Garthwaite, 2nd Bt., son of Sir William Garthwaite, 1st Bt. and Francesca Margharita Parfett, on 4 April 1957.¹ She died on 9 April 2012.²
     From 4 April 1957, her married name became Garthwaite.

     John William Philip Garthwaite was born on 9 January 1958.¹ He is the son of Sir William Francis Cuthbert Garthwaite, 2nd Bt. and Patricia Merriel d‘Ambrumenil.² He married Sarah Elizabeth March, daughter of Reverend Charles Anthony Maclea March, on 7 May 1983.¹
     He lived in 2003 at Matfield Oast, Chestnut Lane, Matfield, Kent, England^G.¹
