John Forbes-Sempill, 18th Lord Sempill1 
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.2 He was commissioned in 1883 with the rank of officer, in the service of the 3rd Battalion, Gordon Highlanders.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1885 in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.2 He fought in the Sudan Campaign between 1885 and 1886.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1886 in the Cameron Highlanders.2 He fought in the Hazara Expedition in 1889.2 He gained the rank of Captain in 1891 in the Royal Army Service Corps.2 He gained the rank of Captain in 1894 in the Black Watch.2 He fought in the Boer War between 1901 and 1902, where he was severely wounded and was mentioned in despatches.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Aberdeenshire.1 He succeeded as the 18th Lord Sempill [S., 1488] on 21 July 1905.2 He succeeded as the 9th Baronet Forbes, of Craigievar [N.S., 1630] on 21 July 1905.1 He held the office of Vice-Lord-Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire.1 He was appointed Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1910 and 1934.2 He was Aide-de-Camp to HM King George V.2
