He was given the name of Elizabeth Forbes-Sempill at birth.3 He was educated at München Universität, Munich, Bavaria, GermanyG.1 He graduated from Aberdeen University, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, ScotlandG, in 1944 with a Bachelor of Surgery (Ch.B.)1 He graduated from Aberdeen University, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, ScotlandG, in 1944 with a Bachelor of Medicine (M.B.)1 In 1952 his name was legally changed to Ewan Forbes-Sempill.3 In 1952 he re-registered his birth as a man.3 In 1965 his name was legally changed to Ewan Forbes.3 In 1965 His succession to the baronetage was challenged by his cousin, John Forbes-Sempill, on the grounds that his re-registration in 1952 of his sex to male was invalid. However in 1968 it was ruled that he had been registered as a female at birth in error.3 He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court on 15 May 1965.1 He succeeded as the 11th Baronet Forbes, of Craigievar [N.S., 1630] on 30 December 1965.1
