     Sir Howard Warburton Elphinstone, 3rd Bt. was born on 26 July 1830.¹ He was the son of Sir Howard Elphinstone, 2nd Bt. and Elizabeth Julia Curteis.² He married Constance Mary Alexander Hankey, daughter of John Alexander Hankey and Ellen Hankey, on 4 August 1860.¹ He died on 3 January 1917 at age 86.¹
     He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He was a practising barrister.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Sussex.¹ He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Elphinstone, of Sowerby, Cumberland [U.K., 1816] on 16 March 1893.¹

     Julia Elphinstone was the daughter of Sir Howard Elphinstone, 2nd Bt. and Elizabeth Julia Curteis.² She married General Walter Douglas Patton-Bethune on 23 April 1855.¹ She died on 20 October 1909.¹
     From 23 April 1855, her married name became Patton-Bethune.

     General Walter Douglas Patton-Bethune was born circa 1822.² He married Julia Elphinstone, daughter of Sir Howard Elphinstone, 2nd Bt. and Elizabeth Julia Curteis, on 23 April 1855.¹ He died on 28 January 1901.¹
     He lived at Clayton Priory, Sussex, England^G.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in the 2nd Battalion, Highland Light Infantry.¹
