     Katherine Clephane was the daughter of George Clephane of Carslogie and Katherine Orme.^2,3 A contract for the marriage of Katherine Clephane and James Makgill was signed on 20 September 1598 at Carslogie, Fife, Scotland.^1,3 She died in October 1662.^1,3
     From 20 September 1598, her married name became Makgill.

     Alexander Makgill was the son of unknown Makgill.¹ He died circa 1747.¹

     Sir James Makgill of Rankeillour was the son of Sir David Makgill of Rankeillour and Elizabeth Ruthven.² He married, secondly, Isabel Preston, daughter of Sir George Preston of Valleyfield.¹ He married, firstly, Hon. Janet Crichton, daughter of James Crichton, 1st Viscount Frendraught and Marion Irvine, on 24 August 1665.¹ He died circa 3 May 1699.¹
     He lived at Rankeillour, Fife, Scotland^G.¹

     James Crichton, 1st Viscount Frendraught was born circa 1620.² He was the son of James Crichton of Frendraught and Lady Elizabeth Gordon.² He married, firstly, Lady Janet Leslie, daughter of Alexander Leslie, 1st Earl of Leven and Agnes Renton, after 1 October 1639.² He married, secondly, Marion Irvine, daughter of Sir Alexander Irvine, 10th of Drum and Magdalene Scrymgeour, in 1642.² He died before 17 August 1665.²
     He was created 1st Viscount Frendraught [Scotland] on 29 August 1642.² He was created 1st Lord Crichton [Scotland] on 29 August 1642.² On 20 July 1647 he gave a wadset of his lands which were appraised by creditors.²

     Hon. Janet Crichton was baptised on 20 November 1640.² She was the daughter of James Crichton, 1st Viscount Frendraught and Marion Irvine.² She married Sir James Makgill of Rankeillour, son of Sir David Makgill of Rankeillour and Elizabeth Ruthven, on 24 August 1665.¹
     On 16 August 1647 she ahd a charter of Frendraught.² From 24 August 1665, her married name became Makgill.

     David Makgill of Rankeillour was the son of Sir James Makgill of Rankeillour and Hon. Janet Crichton.² A contract for the marriage of David Makgill of Rankeillour and Janet Craig was signed on 10 February 1693.¹ He died in September 1717.¹
     He succeeded as the 3rd Lord Makgill of Cousland [S., 1651] in December 1705, de jure.¹ He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Makgill [N.S., 1627] in December 1705, de jure.¹ He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount of Oxfuird [S., 1651] in December 1705, de jure.¹ He had three other sons.¹

     Janet Craig is the daughter of John Craig of Ramorney.¹ A contract for the marriage of Janet Craig and David Makgill of Rankeillour was signed on 10 February 1693.¹
     From 10 February 1693, her married name became Makgill.
