     Rear-Admiral Lewis Maitland was born on 12 April 1812.1 He was the son of Charles Maitland and Mary Johnston.2 He married, firstly, Henrietta Louisa Newbolt, daughter of Sir John Henry Newbolt and Henrietta Blenkinsop, on 12 December 1841.1 He married, secondly, Mary Allan, daughter of Archibald Finnie Allan and Elizabeth Providence Durie, on 24 March 1869.1 He died on 25 February 1876 at age 63.1
