Sir Hugh Thomas Dyke Acland1 
He was educated between 1885 and 1893 at Christ’s College, Christchurch, New ZealandG.2 He was educated in 1893 at Otago University, Dunedin, New ZealandG.2 He was educated in 1894 at St. Thomas’ Hospital, London, EnglandG.2 He was registered as a Licentiate, Royal College of Physicians (L.R.C.P.) in 1898.1,2 He gained the rank of civil surgeon in 1900 in the Royal Army Medical Corps.2 He fought in the Boer War from 1900 to 1901.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1914 in the Royal Army Medical Corps.2 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1917.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1919.1 He was appointed Knight in 1933.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal College of Surgeons (F.R.C.S.)1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the New Zealand Army Medical Corps Reserve Officers.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography.2

Walter Empson1 

Walter Empson was born on 19 February 1856 at Eydon, Northamptonshire, England.2 He was the son of Reverend Arthur John Empson and Anna Delicia Hook.1,2 He married Agnes Dyke Acland, daughter of John Barton Arundel Acland and Emily Weddell Harper, on 15 September 1885.1 He died on 14 June 1934 at age 78 at Parkstone, Dorset, England.1,2
He was educated at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, England.2 He graduated from Trinity College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He was a farmer in 1879 at Rangatira, Canterbury, New Zealand.2 He was a master between 1884 and 1888 at Wanganui Collegiate School, Wanganui, New Zealand.2 He was headmaster between 1888 and 1908 at Wanganui Collegiate School, Wanganui, New ZealandG.2
