     He was educated between 1885 and 1893 at Christ’s College, Christchurch, New Zealand^G.² He was educated in 1893 at Otago University, Dunedin, New Zealand^G.² He was educated in 1894 at St. Thomas’ Hospital, London, England^G.² He was registered as a Licentiate, Royal College of Physicians (L.R.C.P.) in 1898.^1,2 He gained the rank of civil surgeon in 1900 in the Royal Army Medical Corps.² He fought in the Boer War from 1900 to 1901.¹ He gained the rank of Major in 1914 in the Royal Army Medical Corps.² He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1917.¹ He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1919.¹ He was appointed Knight in 1933.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Royal College of Surgeons (F.R.C.S.)¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in the New Zealand Army Medical Corps Reserve Officers.¹ He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography.²
     

     Evelyn Mary Ovans was born on 12 October 1871.² She was the daughter of John Lambert Ovans and Lina Mary Phipps Hornby.^3,2 She was baptised on 15 November 1871 at East Sheen, Surrey, England.² She married Sir Hugh Thomas Dyke Acland, son of John Barton Arundel Acland and Emily Weddell Harper, on 15 April 1903 at New Sleaford, Lincolnshire, England^G.^3,4 She died on 6 April 1964 at age 92.³
     Her married name became Acland.

     John Lambert Ovans was born on 15 December 1837 at Satara, Bombay, India.² He was baptised on 28 February 1838.² He married Lina Mary Phipps Hornby, daughter of Captain Phipps John Hornby and Frederica Breton, on 30 September 1869.² He died on 20 July 1883 at age 45 at London, England.²

     Agnes Dyke Acland was born on 28 February 1861 at London, England.^1,2 She was the daughter of John Barton Arundel Acland and Emily Weddell Harper.¹ She was baptised on 22 March 1861 at St. James’ Church, Paddington, London, England.² She married Walter Empson, son of Reverend Arthur John Empson and Anna Delicia Hook, on 15 September 1885.¹ She died on 3 April 1945 at age 84 at Havelock North, New Zealand.^1,2 She was buried at Church of the Holy Innocents, Mt. Peel, Canterbury, New Zealand.²
     Her married name became Empson. She was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.)²

     Walter Empson was born on 19 February 1856 at Eydon, Northamptonshire, England.² He was the son of Reverend Arthur John Empson and Anna Delicia Hook.^1,2 He married Agnes Dyke Acland, daughter of John Barton Arundel Acland and Emily Weddell Harper, on 15 September 1885.¹ He died on 14 June 1934 at age 78 at Parkstone, Dorset, England.^1,2
     He was educated at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, England.² He graduated from Trinity College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)² He was a farmer in 1879 at Rangatira, Canterbury, New Zealand.² He was a master between 1884 and 1888 at Wanganui Collegiate School, Wanganui, New Zealand.² He was headmaster between 1888 and 1908 at Wanganui Collegiate School, Wanganui, New Zealand^G.²

     Reverend Arthur John Empson was born in 1818.² He married Anna Delicia Hook.² He died in 1876.²

     Emily Dyke Acland was born circa 1864.¹ She was the daughter of John Barton Arundel Acland and Emily Weddell Harper.¹ She died in 1864, young.¹

     Mary Emily Dyke Acland was born on 31 May 1865 at Holnicote, England^G.² She was the daughter of John Barton Arundel Acland and Emily Weddell Harper.¹ She married Frederick Villebois Lysaght, son of James Richard Lysaght and Frances Charlotte Gardiner, on 10 May 1887.^1,2 She died on 10 January 1916 at age 50 at Geraldine, New Zealand.^1,2 She was buried on 13 January 1916 at Mt. Peel, Canterbury, New Zealand.²
     From 10 May 1887, her married name became Lysaght.

     Frederick Villebois Lysaght is the son of James Richard Lysaght and Frances Charlotte Gardiner. He married Mary Emily Dyke Acland, daughter of John Barton Arundel Acland and Emily Weddell Harper, on 10 May 1887.^1,2
     He lived at Benham, Geraldine, New Zealand^G.¹

     Harriet Dyke Acland was born in 1867.² She was the daughter of John Barton Arundel Acland and Emily Weddell Harper.¹ She married Major Archibald Claude Douglas Spencer, son of Henry Spencer and Jane Hamilla Hamilton, on 30 December 1908.¹ She died in 1948.³
     Her married name became Spencer.
