John Barton Arundel Acland was born on 25 November 1823.1 He was the son of Sir Thomas Dyke Acland, 6th/10th Bt. and Lydia Elizabeth Hoare.1 He married Emily Weddell Harper, daughter of Rt. Rev. Henry John Chitty Harper and Emily Weddell Wooldridge, on 17 January 1860 at St. Michael’s Church, Chirstchurch, New Zealand.1,2 He died on 18 May 1904 at age 80.1
