     Sir Edward Charles Macnaghten of Dundarave, 5th Bt. was born on 9 October 1859.² He was the son of Edward Macnaghten, Baron Macnaghten and Frances Arabella Martin.² He married, firstly, Hon. Gwen Elca Violett Abbot, daughter of Charles Stuart Aubrey Abbott, 3rd Baron Tenterden and Penelope Mary Gertrude Smyth, on 20 March 1888.² He married, secondly, Edith Minnie Powell, daughter of Thomas Powell, in January 1894.² He died on 31 December 1914 at age 55.²
     He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn in 1885 entitled to practise as a barrister.¹ He was appointed King’s Counsel (K.C.) in 1897.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Antrim.¹ He held the office of Bencher of Lincoln’s Inn in 1904.³ He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Macnaghten, of Dundarave, co. Antrim [U.K., 1836] on 17 February 1913.²

     Hon. Gwen Elca Violett Abbot was the daughter of Charles Stuart Aubrey Abbott, 3rd Baron Tenterden and Penelope Mary Gertrude Smyth.^1,2 She married Sir Edward Charles Macnaghten of Dundarave, 5th Bt., son of Edward Macnaghten, Baron Macnaghten and Frances Arabella Martin, on 20 March 1888.¹ She died on 5 December 1891.¹
     From 20 March 1888, her married name became Macnaghten.¹

     Edith Minnie Powell was the daughter of Thomas Powell.¹ She married Sir Edward Charles Macnaghten of Dundarave, 5th Bt., son of Edward Macnaghten, Baron Macnaghten and Frances Arabella Martin, in January 1894.¹ She died on 20 August 1948.¹
     From January 1894, her married name became Macnaghten.¹
