     James Stopford, 2nd Earl of Courtown was born on 28 May 1731.¹ He was the son of James Stopford, 1st Earl of Courtown and Elizabeth Smith.¹ He married Mary Powys, daughter of Richard Powys and Lady Mary Brudenell, on 19 April 1762 at St. George’s Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England^G.² He died on 30 March 1810 at age 78 at Teddington, London, England^G.² He was buried on 12 April 1810 at Deene, Northamptonshire, England^G.² His will was proven (by probate) in April 1810.²
     He matriculated at Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland^G, on 27 February 1747/48.³ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Taghmon [Ireland] between 1761 and 1768.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Bedwyn in 1774.² He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland] on 28 December 1775.² He held the office of Lord of the Bedchamber to HRH The Prince of Wales between 1780 and 1784.² He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Marlborough between 1780 and 1793.² He was appointed Knight, Order of St. Patrick (K.P.) on 11 March 1783.² He held the office of Treasurer of the Royal Household between 1784 and 1793.² He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 20 August 1784.² He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Courtown, co. Wexford [I., 1762] on 8 September 1788.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Courtown, co. Wexford [I., 1758] on 8 September 1788.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount Stopford [I., 1762] on 8 September 1788.¹ He was created 1st Baron Saltersford, of Saltersford, co. Chester [Great Britain] on 7 June 1796.²

     Mary Powys was the daughter of Richard Powys and Lady Mary Brudenell.¹ She married James Stopford, 2nd Earl of Courtown, son of James Stopford, 1st Earl of Courtown and Elizabeth Smith, on 19 April 1762 at St. George’s Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England^G.¹ She died on 3 January 1810 at Ham Common, Surrey, England^G.¹ She was buried on 13 January 1810 at Deene, Northamptonshire, England^G.¹
     Her married name became Stopford. After her marriage, Mary Powys was styled as Countess of Courtown on 8 September 1788.

     Mary Fanshawe was born in 1788 at Devon, England.² She was the daughter of Captain Robert Fanshawe and Christiana Gennys.^1,3 She married Admiral Hon. Sir Robert Stopford, son of James Stopford, 2nd Earl of Courtown and Mary Powys, on 29 June 1809.¹ She died on 5 June 1866.¹
     Her married name became Stopford.

     Captain Robert Fanshawe was born on 4 January 1740.³ He was the son of Rear-Admiral Charles Fanshawe and Elizabeth Rogers.² He married Christiana Gennys, daughter of John Gennys, on 5 December 1769.³ He died on 4 February 1823 at age 83.³
     He gained the rank of Commissioner in the Royal Navy.⁴ He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1759 in the Royal Navy.² He gained the rank of Master and Commander in 1762.² He gained the rank of Captain in 1768 in the Royal Navy.²

     Julia Maria Wilbraham was born circa 1819.¹ She was the daughter of Captain William Wilbraham.¹ She married Captain Edward Stopford, son of Reverend Hon. Richard Bruce Stopford and Hon. Eleanor Powys, on 6 August 1840.¹ She died on 8 August 1924.¹
     Her married name became Stopford.

     Reverend Hon. Richard Bruce Stopford was born on 2 March 1774.¹ He was the son of James Stopford, 2nd Earl of Courtown and Mary Powys.¹ He married Hon. Eleanor Powys, daughter of Thomas Powys, 1st Baron Lilford of Lilford and Mary Eleanor Mann, on 10 November 1800.¹ He died on 12 December 1844 at age 70.¹
     He held the office of Chaplain to HM Queen Victoria.¹ He held the office of Prebendary of Hereford.¹ He held the office of Canon of Windsor.¹

     Hon. Catherine Elizabeth Neville was born on 8 August 1855 at 18 Hertford Street, Mayfair, London, England^G.¹ She was the daughter of Richard Cornwallis Neville, 4th Lord Braybrooke, Baron of Braybrooke and Lady Charlotte Sarah Graham-Toler.¹ She married James Walter Milles Stopford, 6th Earl of Courtown, son of James George Henry Stopford, 5th Earl of Courtown and Hon. Elizabeth Frances Milles, on 27 April 1876 at St. George’s Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England^G.¹ She died on 12 August 1884 at age 29 at 6 Queen’s Gardens, Windsor, Berkshire, England^G.¹ She was buried on 15 August 1884 at Windsor Cemetery, Windsor, Berkshire, England^G.¹
     Her married name became Stopford.

     James George Henry Stopford, 5th Earl of Courtown was born on 24 April 1823 at Courtown House, County Wexford, Ireland^G.¹ He was the son of James Thomas Stopford, 4th Earl of Courtown and Lady Charlotte Albina Montagu-Scott.¹ He married Hon. Elizabeth Frances Milles, daughter of George John Milles, 4th Baron Sondes and Eleanor Knatchbull, on 3 September 1846 at St. James’ Church, Westminster, London, England^G.¹ He died on 28 November 1914 at age 91 at Courtown House, Gorey, County Wexford, Ireland^G.²
     He was educated between 1834 and 1839 at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England^G.^1,2 He gained the rank of Captain in 1845 in the Grenadier Guards.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Wexford in 1848.³ He held the office of Sheriff of County Wexford in 1848.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Wexford in 1848.³ He succeeded as the 5th Viscount Stopford [I., 1762] on 20 November 1858.¹ He succeeded as the 5th Earl of Courtown, co.      James Walter Milles Stopford, 6th Earl of Courtown was born on 3 March 1853 at 34 Cavendish Square, Marylebone, London, England^G.¹ He was the son of James George Henry Stopford, 5th Earl of Courtown and Hon. Elizabeth Frances Milles.¹ He married, firstly, Hon. Catherine Elizabeth Neville, daughter of Richard Cornwallis Neville, 4th Lord Braybrooke, Baron of Braybrooke and Lady Charlotte Sarah Graham-Toler, on 27 April 1876 at St. George’s Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England^G.¹ He married, secondly, Gertrude Mills, daughter of General Charles James Conway Mills and Gertrude Whitbread, on 25 September 1886 at St. Paul’s Church, Knightsbridge, London, England^G.¹ He died on 18 July 1933 at age 80 at 7 Chesham Place, London, England^G, suddenly.² He was buried on 21 July 1933 at City of Westminster Cemetery, Hanwell, London, England^G.²
