     He graduated from New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ He was an architect.¹ He succeeded as the 11th Viscount Tamworth, of co. Stafford [G.B., 1711] on 26 July 1912.² He succeeded as the 17th Baronet Shirley, of Staunton Harold [E., 1611] on 26 July 1912.¹ He succeeded as the 11th Earl Ferrers [G.B., 1711] on 26 July 1912.²

     Reverend Walter Waddington Shirley was born on 24 July 1828.¹ He was the son of Rt. Rev. Walter Augustus Shirley and Maria Waddington.^1,2 He married Philippa Frances Emilia Knight, daughter of Samuel Knight, on 4 July 1855.¹ He died on 20 November 1866 at age 38.¹
     He was Regius Professor of Ecclesiastical History at Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G.¹ He graduated from Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, with a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.)¹ He held the office of Canon of Christ Church.¹ He had another son (died young) and two daughters (who both died unmarried.)¹

     Rt. Rev. Walter Augustus Shirley was born on 30 May 1797.¹ He was the son of Reverend Walter Shirley and Alice Newenham.^1,2 He married Maria Waddington, daughter of William Waddington, on 4 September 1827.¹ He died on 21 April 1847 at age 49.¹

     Rev. Hon. Walter Shirley was born on 28 September 1726.¹ He was the son of Hon. Laurence Shirley and Anne Clarges.^1,2 He married Henrietta Maria Phillips, daughter of John Phillips and Henrietta Eccleston, on 27 August 1766.¹ He died on 7 April 1786 at age 59.¹
