Maj.-Gen. Godfrey John Hamilton was born on 31 March 1912.3 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Frederick Arthur Hamilton and Phyllis Addams Williams.4 He married, secondly, Mary Margaret Kaye, daughter of Lt.-Col. Sir Cecil Kaye.4 He married, firstly, Mary Penelope Colthurst, daughter of Sir Richard St. John Jefferyes Colthurst, 8th Bt. and Cecily Charlotte Cholmondeley, on 27 April 1937.5 He and Mary Penelope Colthurst were divorced in 1952.5 He died on 21 December 1985 at age 73 at Hailsham, Sussex, England.2
He was educated at Radley College, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England.3 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.3 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1935.3 He fought in the Second World War.3 He gained the rank of Major-General in the QVO Corps of Guides, Indian Army.5 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1958.3 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1966.3 He lived in 1976 at The Old House, Boreham Street, Hailsham, Sussex, England.3
