Sir John Adam Hay, 9th Bt.1

     Sir John Adam Hay, 9th Bt. was born on 5 May 1854.2 He was the son of Sir Robert Hay, 8th Bt. and Sarah Duncan.2 He married Anne Salisbury Mary Meliora Milliken-Napier, daughter of Sir Robert John Milliken-Napier of Merchistoun, 9th Bt. and Anne Salisbury Meliora Ladaveze Adlercron, on 10 March 1881.3 He died on 4 May 1895 at age 40.2
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Scots Guards.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Peebles-shire.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Peebles-shire.2 He gained the rank of Major in the 6th Volunteer Reserve, Royal Scots Lothian Regiment.2 He succeeded as the 9th Baronet Hay, of Smithfield, co. Peebles [N.S., 1635] on 30 May 1885.2
