Ernest Bowes-Lyon was born on 4 August 1858.2 He was the son of Claude Bowes-Lyon, 13th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Frances Dora Smith.2 He married Isobel Hester Drummond, daughter of Harvey Drummond and Susan Caroline Drummond, on 23 November 1882.1 He died on 27 December 1891 at age 33.1
     He was with the Diplomatic Service.2
