     He was educated at Uppingham School, Uppingham, Rutland, England^G.¹ He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Engineers.¹ He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.¹ He succeeded as the 9th Baronet Cradock-Hartopp, of Freathby, co. Leicester [G.B., 1796] on 5 September 1949.¹ He was a director of Firth Brown Tools between 1961 and 1996.¹
