(Conservative) for Kilmarnock between October 1924 and May 1929.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) in 1929.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Patrick between October 1931 and October 1935.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel between 1932 and 1936 in the Ayrshire Yeomanry (Territorial Army.)2 He was appointed Knight in 1935.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for North Ayrshire between November 1935 and September 1959.2 He was appointed Officer, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (O.St.J.)2 He gained the rank of Brevet-Colonel in 1936.2 He was member of the Raceecourse Betting Control Board between 1938 and 1961.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1952.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Ayrshire in 1955.2 He was created 1st Baron MacAndrew, of the Firth of Clyde [U.K., 1959] on 8 December 1959.2
