     Hector Roy Mackenzie, 1st of Gairloch is the son of Alexander ‘Ionriac’ Mackenzie, 7th of Kintail and Margaret MacCoull.1 He married Anne Macdonald, daughter of Ranald ‘Bane’ Macdonald, 5th of Clanranald and Moidart and Catherine Mackintosh.2
     He was ancestor of the Mackenzies of Gairloch.1 He held part of Gairloch in the late 15th century.3 Hector Roy Mackenzie, 1st of Gairloch also went by the nick-name of Hector ‘Earchainn Ruadh’ (or in English, ‘Red Hector.3‘) He was living in 1511.1
