     Rt. Hon. Sir James Lewis Knight-Bruce was born on 15 February 1791 at Barnstaple, Devon, England.1 He was the son of John Knight and Margaret Bruce.1 He married Eliza Newte, daughter of Thomas Newte, in 1812.2 He died on 7 November 1866 at age 75 at Roehampton Priory, Surrey, England.1
     He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.)3 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)1 He was given the name of James Lewis Knight at birth.1 He graduated with a Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.)2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bishops Castle in 1831.2 On 4 September 1837 his name was legally changed to James Lewis Knight-Bruce by Royal Licence.2 He held the office of Vice-Chancellor of England.2 He held the office of Lord Justice of Appeal in Chancery on 8 October 1851.2
