He was educated at Merchant Taylors’ School, Crosby, Lancashire, EnglandG.1 He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn in 1891.2 He graduated from St. John’s College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1894 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)3 He was appointed King’s Counsel (K.C.) in 1910.2 He held the office of Bencher of Lincoln’s Inn in 1914.2 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1920.1 He was counsel for the Royal College of Physcians between 1923 and 1926 at Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.4 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1926.4 He held the office of Judge of the High Court, Chancery Division between 1926 and 1938.4 He held the office of Treasurer of Lincoln’s Inn in 1937.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1938.4 He held the office of Lord Justice of Appeal between 1938 and 1942.1 He was created 1st Baron Clauson, of Hawkshead, co. Hertford [U.K.] on 20 February 1942.1
