     Sir Henry Lindsay Bethune of Kilconquhar, 1st Bt. was born on 12 April 1787.³ He was the son of Major Martin Eccles Lindsay Bethune and Margaret Augusta Tovey.¹ He married Coutts Trotter, daughter of John Trotter, on 9 July 1822.³ He died on 19 February 1851 at age 63.³
     He was Commander of the Persian forces against Russia between 1804 and 1819.³ He was with the Honourable East India Company Service.³ He gained the rank of Major in the Court of the Shah of Persia.³ He was appointed Knight in 1832.³ He was Commander of the Persian forces against the rebel Zulli Sultan between 1834 and 1836.³ He was created 1st Baronet Bethune, of Kilconquhar [U.K.] on 7 March 1836.³ He succeeded as the 9th Lord Parbroath [S., 1633] on 14 March 1839, de jure.³ He succeeded as the 8th Viscount of Garnock [S., 1703] on 14 March 1839, de jure.³ He succeeded as the 8th Lord Kilbirny and Drumry [S., 1703] on 14 March 1839, de jure.³ He succeeded as the 9th Earl of Lindsay [S., 1633] on 14 March 1839, de jure.³ He succeeded as the 18th Lord Lindsay of the Byres [S., 1444] on 14 March 1839, de jure.³

     Coutts Trotter was the daughter of John Trotter.¹ She married Sir Henry Lindsay Bethune of Kilconquhar, 1st Bt., son of Major Martin Eccles Lindsay Bethune and Margaret Augusta Tovey, on 9 July 1822.¹ She died on 31 December 1877.¹
     Her married name became Lindsay.

     He lived at Dyrham Park, Hertfordshire, England^G.¹

     John Trotter Bethune, 10th Earl of Lindsay was born on 3 January 1827.¹ He was the son of Sir Henry Lindsay Bethune of Kilconquhar, 1st Bt. and Coutts Trotter.¹ He married Jeanne Eudoxie Duval, daughter of Jacques Victor Duval, on 18 July 1858.¹ He died on 12 May 1894 at age 67, without issue.¹
     He succeeded as the 19th Lord Lindsay of the Byres [S., 1444] on 19 February 1851.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Bethune, of Kilconquhar [U.K., 1836] on 19 February 1851.¹ He succeeded as the 9th Lord Kilbirny and Drumry [S., 1703] on 19 February 1851.¹ He succeeded as the 10th Earl of Lindsay [S., 1633] on 19 February 1851.¹ He succeeded as the 10th Lord Parbroath [S., 1633] on 19 February 1851.¹ He succeeded as the 9th Viscount of Garnock [S., 1703] on 19 February 1851.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 91st Highlanders.¹ On 5 April 1878 his titles were recognised by the House of Lords.¹ He held the office of Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1885 and 1894.¹ On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.¹

     Jeanne Eudoxie Duval was the daughter of Jacques Victor Duval.¹ She married John Trotter Bethune, 10th Earl of Lindsay, son of Sir Henry Lindsay Bethune of Kilconquhar, 1st Bt. and Coutts Trotter, on 18 July 1858.¹ She died on 24 June 1897.¹
     From 18 July 1858, her married name became Bethune.¹

     Jacques Victor Duval lived at Bordeaux, France^G.¹

     Patrick Lindsay was born in 1745.¹ He was the son of George Lindsay and Margaret Bethune.¹ He died in 1823.¹
     He lived at Coats, Leicestershire, England^G.¹

     David Ayton-Lindsay of Wormiston was born on 31 December 1798.¹ He was the son of Patrick Lindsay.¹ He married Jane Emilia Ayton, daughter of John Ayton, in 1824.¹ He died on 5 May 1872 at age 73.¹
     He was given the name of David Lindsay at birth.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Fife.¹ He lived at Wormiston, Fife, Scotland^G.¹

     Jane Emilia Ayton was the daughter of John Ayton.¹ She married David Ayton-Lindsay of Wormiston, son of Patrick Lindsay, in 1824.¹ She died on 22 November 1872.¹
     From 1824, her married name became Ayton-Lindsay.¹ Her married name became Lindsay.
