     He was given the name of David Clarke Lindsay at birth.¹ He was educated at St. Andrews University, St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland^G.¹ He was educated at Edinburgh University, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹ In 1894 his name was legally changed to David Clarke Bethune.¹ He succeeded as the 10th Viscount of Garnock [S., 1703] on 12 May 1894.¹ He succeeded as the 11th Lord Parbroath [S., 1633] on 12 May 1894.¹ He succeeded as the 11th Earl of Lindsay [S., 1633] on 12 May 1894.¹ He succeeded as the 10th Lord Kilbirny and Drumry [S., 1703] on 12 May 1894.¹ He succeeded as the 20th Lord Lindsay of the Byres [S., 1444] on 12 May 1894.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Fife.¹

     Emily Marian Crosse was the daughter of Robert Crosse.¹ She married, firstly, Captain Edmund Charles Barnes before 1866.¹ She married, secondly, David Clarke Bethune, 11th Earl of Lindsay, son of David Ayton-Lindsay of Wormiston and Jane Emilia Ayton, on 15 August 1866.¹ She died on 17 October 1920.¹
     From before 1866, her married name became Barnes.¹ From 15 August 1866, her married name became Lindsay. From 1894, her married name became Bethune.¹

     Beatrice Mary Shaw was the daughter of John Shaw.¹ She married Reginald Lindesay-Bethune, 12th Earl of Lindsay, son of David Clarke Bethune, 11th Earl of Lindsay and Emily Marian Crosse, on 16 October 1892.¹ She died on 9 November 1944.¹
     She was appointed Officer, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (O.St.J.)¹ From 16 October 1892, her married name became Lindesay-Bethune.¹

     John Shaw lived at Welburn Hall, Kirbymoorside, Yorkshire, England^G.¹

     Archibald Lionel Bethune, 13th Earl of Lindsay was born on 14 August 1872.¹ He was the son of David Clarke Bethune, 11th Earl of Lindsay and Emily Marian Crosse.¹ He married Ethel Tucker, daughter of William Austin Tucker, on 31 January 1900.¹ He died on 15 October 1943 at age 71.¹
     He succeeded as the 22nd Lord Lindsay of the Byres [S., 1444] on 14 January 1939.¹ He succeeded as the 12th Lord Kilbirny and Drumry [S., 1703] on 14 January 1939.¹ He succeeded as the 13th Earl of Lindsay [S., 1633] on 14 January 1939.¹ He succeeded as the 13th Lord Parbroath [S., 1633] on 14 January 1939.¹ He succeeded as the 12th Viscount of Garnock [S., 1703] on 14 January 1939.¹

     Ethel Tucker was the daughter of William Austin Tucker.¹ She married Archibald Lionel Bethune, 13th Earl of Lindsay, son of David Clarke Bethune, 11th Earl of Lindsay and Emily Marian Crosse, on 31 January 1900.¹ She died on 31 May 1942.¹
     From 31 January 1900, her married name became Bethune.¹
