Sir Hugh Cathcart, 1st Bt.1 
In 1689 he garrisoned Ardmillan and raised a troop of Fencibles in Carrickshire.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Ayrshire [Scotland] between 1702 and 1707.1 On 19 December 1703 he had charter of the barony of Carleton.1 He was created 1st Baronet Cathcart, of Carleton, co. Ayr [Nova Scotia] on 20 January 1704.1
