He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Broughton, of Marchwiell, co. Denbigh [E., 1665] circa June 1665, if a baroentcy was actually created.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Denbighshire from 1697 to 1698.1
On his death, his baronetcy, to the extent one existed, became extinct.1

He was created 1st Baronet Broun, of Coulston, co. Haddington [Nova Scotia] on 16 February 1685/86, with special remainder to all heirs male whatsoever.1 He held the office of Sheriff Depute of Haddington.2
