Sir Leslie Stephen was born on 28 November 1832 at London, EnglandG.2 He was the son of Sir James Stephen and Jane Catherine Venn.3 He married, firstly, Harriet Marion Thackeray, daughter of William Makepeace Thackeray and Isabella Gethen Creagh Shawe, in 1867.1 He married, secondly, Julia Prinsep Jackson, daughter of Dr. John Jackson and Maria Theodosia Pattle, on 26 March 1878.4 He died on 22 February 1904 at age 71 at 22 Hyde Park Gate, London, EnglandG.3
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.5 He graduated from Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1854 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)5 He graduated from Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1857 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)5 He was editor of Cornhill Magazine between 1871 and 1882.5 He wrote the book History of English thought in the eighteenth century.5 He wrote the book Hours in a library.5 He wrote the book Dictionary of National Biography, founding editor.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in June 1902.5
