He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royalist Army.1 He was appointed Knight on 2 July 1632 at Oatlands, Surrey, EnglandG.2 He fought in the Battle of Dunbar in 1650.1 He styled himself as 1st Baronet Carmichael, of Bonnington, co. Lanark [Nova Scotia] circa 1676, after he purchased a blank warrant for a Baronetcy for £100, although there is no record of it in the Great Seal or elsewhere.2 He lived at Bonningtoun, Lanarkshire, ScotlandG.1
