John Robartes, 1st Earl of Radnor1

John Robartes, 1st Earl of Radnor was born in 1606.1 He was the son of Richard Robartes, 1st Baron Robartes of Truro and Frances Hender.1 He married, firstly, Lady Lucy Rich, daughter of Robert Rich, 2nd Earl of Warwick and Frances Hatton.3 He married, secondly, Laetitia Isabella Smythe, daughter of Sir John Smythe and Isabel Rich, from 11 May 1646 to 21 April 1647.4 He died on 17 July 1685.2
He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Robartes of Truro in 1634. He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Cornwall between 1642 and 1645.5 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Devon from 1644 to 1645.5 He held the office of Governor of Plymouth in 1644/45.5 He held the office of Lord Deputy of Ireland from 1660 to 1661.5 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1661. He held the office of Lord Privy Seal between 1661 and 1673.5 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1666. He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland from 1669 to 1670.5 He was created 1st Earl of Radnor in 1679.6 He held the office of Lord President of the Council between 1679 and 1684.5
