Traditionally his mother was the wife of O’Cuinnin.2 He was granted lands at Meane and Mahownagh by his cousin, Thomas FitzMaurice, 1st Earl of Desmond.3 Sir Gilbert fitz John also went by the nick-name of Gibbon O’Cunine.4

Sir John fitz John, 1st Knight of Glin1
Traditionally hiis mother was the wife of O’Coileáin.1 Sir John fitz John, 1st Knight of Glin also went by the nick-name of ‘Sean mor na Surzainge’ (or in English, of the girdle.)3 Circa 1260 he held the lands and probably built the castles at Glyn and Beagh.3 In 1307 he had commisioned to capture certain outlaws.3 He was created 1st Knight of Glin either created by King Edward III after the Battle of Halidon Hill, or by virute of his father’s status as a Count Palatine on 19 July 1333.1

Sir Thomas fitz Anthony1 
He held the office of Seneschal of Leinster.1 On 3 July 1215 he obtained a grant from King John of the custody of Counties Waterford and Desmond (except the city of Waterford), and the castles of Waterford and Dungarva and the city of Cork, at a rent of 250 marks per year.1 On 4 July 1216 he obtained the custody of the lands of Thomas fitz Morice.1
