He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Bachelor of Law (Ll.B.)2 He was with the civil service in the War Office between 1860 and 1900.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1885.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Middlesex.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Hampshire.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for London.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Middlesex.2 He was Secretary to the Earl Marshal for the Coronation in 1902.2 He was Gold Staff Officer for the Coronation in 1902.2 He was awarded the Coronation Medal in 1902.2 He was appointed Knight Commander, Royal Victorian Order (K.C.V.O.) in 1902.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for New Forest between 1906 and 1910.2 He held the office of Official Verderer for the New Forest between 1907 and 1928.2 He was awarded the Coronation Medal in 1911.2 He was created 1st Baronet Hobart, of Langdown, Southampton [U.K.] on 14 July 1914.1

Sir Max Leonard Waechter married Harriet Shallcross Cave, daughter of Thomas Cave and Elizabeth Shallcrass, in 1873.3 He married Armatrude Bertie Sophia Effie Hobart, daughter of George Bertie Benjamin Hobart and Rose Armatrude Frances Grimston, on 16 September 1912.1 He died on 3 October 1924.1
