     Sir Basil Shillito Cave was born on 14 November 1865.1 He was the son of Thomas Cave and Elizabeth Shallcrass.1 He married Mary Creighton McClellan, daughter of Reverend J. B. McClellan, in 1892.1
     He was Consul General at Zanzibar.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1897.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.)2 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.)1 He was Consul General at Algiers.1
