Charles Carleton Vieder Young1 
In 1859 he was among the first wave of returnees from Norfolk to Pitcairn Island. He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island between 1890 and 1891.4
He travelled to England in 1915. In 1934-35, at the time of Shapiro’s visit, he was seriously ill with gangrene of the foot. He was named after the Captain of the whaler Nauticon, Charles Vieder, who spent some time on Pitcairn with his parents, and was present at his birth. Captain Vieder’s wife, Susan, was asked to name the child.1
