Moses Young1
He and Albina McCoy emigrated on 8 June 1856; on board the transport Morayshire.3 He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island between 1865 and 1866.4 He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island in 1869.4 He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island in 1875.4 He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island in 1881.4 He was among the first wave of returnees from Norfolk in 1859. On Sundays, on Pitcairn, the first wave returnees met for services at his house, each of the men alternating in conducting the services. It was in strict accordance with Church of England liturgy. Moses, who had learned to read music from Hugh Carleton, a visitor, owned both a fife and a fiddle. He decided to start a class in music for all who cared to come, and taught the basics of both instruments, and how to play a number of standard church tunes.2
