Randolph Stewart, 9th Earl of Galloway was born on 16 September 1800.1 He was the son of Admiral George Stewart, 8th Earl of Galloway and Lady Jane Paget.1 He married Lady Harriett Blanche Somerset, daughter of Henry Charles Somerset, 6th Duke of Beaufort and Lady Charlotte Sophia Leveson-Gower, on 9 August 1833.1 He died on 2 January 1873 at age 72.1
He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Kirkcudbrightshire between 1828 and 1845.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Wigtonshire between 1828 and 1851.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Stewart of Garlies, in the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright [G.B., 1795] on 27 March 1834.1 He succeeded as the 9th Lord of Garlies [S., 1607] on 27 March 1834.1 He succeeded as the 9th Earl of Galloway [S., 1623] on 27 March 1834.1 He succeeded as the 8th Baronet Stewart, of Corsewell [N.S., 1627] on 27 March 1834.1 He succeeded as the 7th Baronet Stewart, of Burray [N.S., 1687] on 27 March 1834.1
