     Edward Arthur Alexander Shackleton, Baron Shackleton was born on 15 July 1911.² He was the son of Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton and Emily Mary Dorman.³ He married Betty Muriel Marguerite Homan, daughter of Charles E. Homan, on 27 April 1938.⁴ He died on 22 February 1994 at age 82.¹
     He was educated at Radley College, Radley, Oxfordshire, England.⁴ He graduated from Magdalen College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)⁴ He fought in the Second World War between 1939 and 1945, where he was mentioned in dispatches twice.⁴ He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1945.⁴ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Preston between 1946 and 1950.⁴ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Preston South between 1950 and 1955.⁴ He was created Baron Shackleton, of Burley in the County of Hampshire [U.K. Life Peer] on 11 August 1958.¹ He held the office of Minister of Defence for the Royal Air Force between 1964 and 1967.⁵ He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1966.⁴ He held the office of Lord Privy Seal between January 1968 and April 1968.⁴ He held the office of Paymaster General between April 1968 and October 1968.⁴ He held the office of Lord Privy Seal in October 1968.⁴ He held the office of Minister in Charge of of Civil Services Department in October 1968.⁶ He wrote the book Arctic Journeys.⁴ He wrote the book Nansen the Explorer.⁴ He was appointed Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) in 1974.¹

     Annie Louisa Samantha Matthews is the daughter of James Matthews and Margaret Simpson.¹ She married Lewis George FitzMaurice, son of Captain Lewis Roper FitzMaurice and Mary Butler, on 26 August 1891 at St. Paul’s Church, Ravenswood, Queensland, Australia^G.¹
     From 26 August 1891, her married name became FitzMaurice.¹

     Blanche FitzMaurice was born circa 1892 at Australia^G.¹ She is the daughter of Lewis George FitzMaurice and Annie Louisa Samantha Matthews.¹

     Percy Roper FitzMaurice was born on 4 January 1894 at Charters Towers, Queensland, Australia^G.¹ He was the son of Lewis George FitzMaurice and Annie Louisa Samantha Matthews.¹

     Charles Hubert FitzMaurice was born on 15 December 1899 at Charters Towers, Queensland, Australia^G.¹ He is the son of Lewis George FitzMaurice and Annie Louisa Samantha Matthews.¹ He married Florence Ivy Larson on 4 April 1938 at Presbyterian Church, Innisfail, Queensland, Australia^G.¹

     Dinely Fowler Tonge married Olivia Fanny FitzMaurice, daughter of Captain Lewis Roper FitzMaurice and Mary Butler, in 1878.¹ He died in 1893 at Calcutta, India^G.¹
